AI-powered GAMSAT preparation

The AI-powered GradReady alternative

Published by Aptavia, the makers of Aptavia. This is our own dated, sourced comparison — not an independent review — so read it knowing who wrote it. Spot something outdated or wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it.

GradReady and Aptavia both give you a question bank, explanations and AI help — GradReady ships its own GAMSAT AI, GetClarity, inside its courses. The real difference is Section II. GradReady's courses include a fixed number of human-marked essays (none on the $299 Online Starter tier, where extras are $39 each; 2 on Essentials, 8 on Online Comprehensive, 10 on Attendance Comprehensive and Complete Care, up to 30 on their top course), returned within 72 working hours. Aptavia marks every essay you write, within minutes, by two AI examiners on a rubric we built from ACER's two published criteria — your first essay marked free, then everyday marking on Pro under fair use. Here's an honest comparison so you can decide.

Head to head

GradReady marks a set number of essays. We mark every one you write.

Their courses include up to 30 human-marked essays depending on tier (none on the entry tier), back within 72 working hours. Here you write, mark, revise and re-mark the same afternoon — every day on Pro under fair use.

The reasoning style — not recall

Section I · Humanities & Social SciencesSample question

We treat forgetting as a failure — a lapse to be patched with reminders and records. Yet a mind that kept everything could not think; it would drown in the undifferentiated noise of every moment it had ever lived. To forget is not so much to lose information as to decide, mostly without our noticing, what was never worth keeping.

The author's argument relies most directly on which unstated assumption?

Pick an option to see how the tutor reasons to the answer — not just whether you were right.

How to reason to the answer

Not quite — the answer is B.

Work backwards from the conclusion: a mind that ‘kept everything’ supposedly ‘could not think.’ That only follows if thinking means leaving most of experience out — so B is the premise the argument quietly rests on. A raises reliability, which the passage never weighs; C contradicts ‘mostly without our noticing’; D smuggles in a claim about intellect the passage never makes. The question rewards finding the hidden premise, not recalling a fact.

What GradReady does well

  • A large, established question bank (8,000+ MCQs across 43 subtopics on the upper tiers)
  • Structured in-person and live online courses with real tutors
  • Human marking of practice essays, returned within 72 working hours
  • GetClarity — their own GAMSAT-specific AI, answering instantly and escalatable to a human tutor
  • Interview and MMI preparation for later application stages
  • A genuinely useful free trial: 40 MCQs, a full practice test, textbook chapters, course videos and example marked essays

GradReady has been around longer and has its own GAMSAT AI — so "we have AI and they don't" isn't a real difference any more. Two things are: how many of your essays get marked (all of them here, versus a fixed tier allocation there), and what it costs to find out whether the product suits you.

Where Aptavia is different

An AI tutor on every question, without buying a course

Stuck? Get an instant, Socratic explanation of exactly why each option is right or wrong, on any question in the bank. It is part of Pro — 24 hours of Pro are free when you choose to start them, and a month of it costs less than the entry course tier.

Every essay marked, not a set number

Two AI examiners grade every Section II essay on a calibrated examiner rubric within minutes. Write, mark and revise every day on Pro under generous fair use — no allocation to ration and no wait of up to 72 working hours between drafts.

Genuinely adaptive practice

Practice targets your weak topics, steps up difficulty as you improve, resurfaces past mistakes, and never re-serves what you've mastered.

Free to start, $59/month after

Do meaningful practice before paying anything — against course tiers that run from $299 to $5,499. Installable as an app and works offline, too.

Switch to Aptavia if…

  • You want every essay you write marked, not a fixed allocation you have to ration
  • You want a marked essay back within minutes so you can revise the same afternoon
  • You're on a student budget and don't want course-level fees
  • You prefer to study flexibly, on your own schedule, on any device

GradReady may suit you if…

  • You specifically want in-person, classroom teaching with a live tutor
  • You want the largest established question bank from day one
  • You want a human being reading your essays, and 72 working hours is fine

GradReady alternative — FAQ

Is there a cheaper alternative to GradReady?

Yes. Aptavia is free to start and Pro is $59/month; GradReady's courses run from $299 (Online Starter) to $5,499 (Success Assured), as listed on their courses page on 5 October 2026. On Pro you get an AI tutor on every question and everyday essay marking under generous fair use, without paying course-level fees — and 24 hours of Pro are free before you decide.

Does Aptavia mark essays like GradReady?

Both mark essays, but differently. GradReady's marking is human, returned within 72 working hours, and capped by course tier — none included on Online Starter (extras $39 each), 2 on Online Essentials, 8 on Online Comprehensive, 10 on Attendance Comprehensive, up to 30 on their top course. Aptavia marks every essay you write within minutes, using two independent AI examiners on a rubric we built from ACER's two published criteria, every day on Pro under fair use. If you want a person's read, theirs is the human option; if you want to write, mark and revise in one sitting, ours is built for that.

Does GradReady have an AI tutor?

Yes. GradReady ships GetClarity, its own GAMSAT-specific AI system for the GAMSAT, which answers questions instantly and lets you escalate to a human tutor. Their courses page lists it for MCQs, online exams and tutoring; we could not find it named in their free trial. So AI help isn't a difference between us any more. The differences that remain are essay marking volume (every essay here versus a tier allocation there), adaptive practice, and price.

How do Aptavia and GradReady approach question practice?

GradReady publishes 8,000+ MCQs across 43 subtopics on its upper tiers. Aptavia maps practice to eight reasoning strands and targets your weakest areas. Every question is reviewed before it serves and comes with an AI tutor and a worked rationale.

Can I use Aptavia and GradReady together?

Yes. Some students use Aptavia Pro for daily adaptive practice and everyday essay marking, and add a course or extra question bank for breadth. Because Aptavia is free to start, you can trial it alongside whatever you already use.
