GAMSAT essay marking, in about a minute

Section 2 is where most candidates fly blind. Sample-answer libraries show you someone else’s essay; a tutor takes days and costs a fortune. We mark your essay on a rubric built from ACER's two published criteria in about a minute — then show you exactly how to push the score higher.

From blank page to a better score in three steps

Write under exam conditions

Pick a prompt and write your response with the real 30-minute timer running — or switch the timer off to practise untimed.

Get marked instantly

Two AI examiners score your essay on our calibrated rubric and return strengths, fixes, and passage-by-passage notes in about a minute.

Revise & re-grade

Apply the feedback and re-submit. The examiners take every issue the last report flagged and tell you whether this draft addressed it, partly addressed it, or left it — the loop that turns marking into real improvement.

Accuracy, by design

Two AIs check everything

AI prep is only worth it if it's right. So nothing reaches you on one model's word — every essay is scored by two independent AI examiners, and every question is verified before you ever see it.

It frames care for the future as a quiet act of selflessness — the old man, the sapling, the shade he forgoes. Yet the more interesting question is not whether such sacrifice is noble, but why we so rarely manage it.

Consider that almost nothing enduring is built by people acting on their own horizon. What sustained them was not individual virtue but a shared story — a belief that they belonged to something whose timeline dwarfed their own.

If sacrifice depends on moral heroism, our prospects are bleak; heroism does not scale. But if it depends on the stories and structures that make distant consequences feel present, it can be engineered. A society grows great not by hoping for selfless old men, but

A panel of frontier models reads your essay independently, lands within a few points, then reconciles to one score — so a single off-day read can’t swing your mark.

What earns this band

Resists the obvious reading — it interrogates the proverb instead of agreeing with it.
One controlling idea — greatness comes from structures, not heroes — that genuinely develops.
A specific, well-analysed example used to make a point, not decorate one.

The fix that raises it

Already top-band. Under exam pressure, protect the final paragraph’s turn — it’s what makes the essay land.

Why this beats the usual options

Most GAMSAT prep leaves Section 2 to luck. Here is how instant marking on your own essay compares.

Sample-answer libraries

Show you a polished essay someone else wrote. Useful for ideas, but they tell you nothing about your writing or what to fix.

Private tutors

Give real feedback — but charge by the hour and can take days per essay, so most candidates only ever get a handful marked.

How is GAMSAT Section 2 scored?

Section 2 — Written Communication — asks you to write two essays in response to sets of quotations. You are not marked on reaching a “correct” conclusion. Markers reward the quality of your thinking and how effectively you communicate it: a clear controlling idea, genuine development with relevant examples, balanced reasoning that acknowledges complexity, and fluent, controlled prose. Section 2 is reported on the same scale as the rest of the GAMSAT, running roughly from the low 40s to the mid 80s, and counts toward your overall score.

Why feedback matters more than sample answers

Reading a high-scoring essay tells you what good looks like, but it cannot tell you where your essay falls short. Improvement comes from a tight loop: write, find out precisely what is holding the score back, fix it, and check whether the change worked. That loop is exactly what instant marking unlocks — and why being able to revise and re-grade the same essay matters more than any library of model answers.

Frequently asked questions

How does AI GAMSAT essay marking work?

You write a Section 2 response to a prompt, then submit it. Two independent AI examiners read your essay and score it on our rubric, built from ACER's two published criteria — the quality of your thinking about the topic, and the control and use of language you show in expressing it. You receive an overall score, a rubric breakdown, specific strengths, the exact things to fix, and passage-by-passage marker notes.

Is AI essay marking accurate for the GAMSAT?

ACER publishes no Section 2 marking rubric, so we built our own from its two published criteria, calibrated it against reviewed exemplar essays, and locked it with regression tests so a score means the same thing every week. Every essay is cross-checked by two separate AI examiners to reduce one-off errors, so it is a reliable training signal for where your writing stands and how to improve it. It is a practice tool to help you prepare — it is not the official ACER mark, which only ACER issues on exam day.

How much does it cost to get a GAMSAT essay marked?

You can start for free and mark essays without paying anything up front. A private GAMSAT tutor typically charges by the hour and can take days to return feedback on a single essay; AI marking returns full feedback in about a minute, so you can practise far more often for far less.

How is GAMSAT Section 2 scored?

Section 2 (Written Communication) is marked on the quality of your thinking and how effectively you communicate it, not on whether you reach a particular 'correct' conclusion. Markers reward a clear controlling idea, genuine development with relevant examples, balanced reasoning, and fluent, controlled prose. Scores sit on the same scale as the rest of the GAMSAT, running roughly from the low 40s to the mid 80s.
