Free GAMSAT prep, all of it
You can start preparing for the GAMSAT without paying for anything. This page lists every genuinely free resource we know of — the free tools on Aptavia, ACER's own free official materials, and the community's best compilations — with an honest line on what each one actually is.
Free on Aptavia
No credit card anywhere below. The free tier is how the product works, not a bait — it doesn't expire, and the allowance numbers on this page are rendered from the same constants the code enforces (published in full on the fair-use page).
Free essay marking
One Section II essay marked free — a scaled score, sub-criteria and line-by-line annotations from two independent AI examiners. It creates your free account.
65 free lessons
65 in-depth lessons across Sections I, II and III — reasoning strategy, essay technique and the sciences, with worked examples. No login required.
Section II essay topics
Free practice prompts in the authentic themed quote-set format, for both Task A and Task B — written in-house, not scraped.
3 annotated sample essays
Three essays on the same prompt — excellent, solid and mid-range — each marked by our own AI examiner so you can see what separates the bands.
Score & GPA calculator
Your overall GAMSAT score as it's actually weighted (Section III counts double) plus your GEMSAS weighted GPA. No sign-up.
Physics formula sheet
38 Section III physics formulas with plain-English meanings and no-calculator reasoning tips — because the real exam gives you neither a sheet nor a calculator.
GAMSAT dates hub
Every key date verified against ACER (estimates clearly labelled), a calendar download, and free email reminders before each deadline.
A free account
The full diagnostic (your baseline score), adaptive practice across all three sections with a timed mode, 3 two-examiner essay marks, 15 answer explanations and 25 AI tutor messages a day. Daily caps apply — the full tables are on the fair-use page.
Free from ACER and elsewhere
The free material that doesn't live here. ACER's is the only official source of GAMSAT-style questions; the rest builds the knowledge and reading the exam draws on.
ACER's official preparation page
Free preparation videos, a free online platform demo, and sample Written Communication prompts — from the organisation that writes the exam. ACER's fuller practice materials (the practice-test e-books and online practice tests) are paid, though Practice Test A is included in the registration fee.
Khan Academy — Science
Free, well-taught foundations in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry and physics — the knowledge base Section III reasoning draws on. Not GAMSAT-specific, but the best free content-gap filler there is.
Project Gutenberg
Tens of thousands of free public-domain books. Section I rewards reading breadth — fiction, poetry and essays — and this is an endless free supply of it.
Wikisource
A free library of source texts — speeches, essays, historical documents and poetry — good for practising the unfamiliar-passage reading Section I actually tests.
The community's own lists
r/GAMSAT has been compiling free resources for years, and its lists are some of the best on the web. These are the community's own threads — the credit is theirs; we just point at them.
Free GAMSAT prep resources and the basics
The subreddit's master-list of free prep resources and exam basics, re-uploaded so it stayed findable — a common starting point.
GAMSAT resource compilation
A compilation thread gathering the community's best articles and posts into one place.
GAMSAT resources — S1, S2, S3
Free and low-cost resources organised by section, so you can fill a specific gap rather than wade through everything.
A cookie-cutter study plan for first-time sitters
A step-by-step guide and study plan written for people sitting the GAMSAT for the first time.
Best resources to prepare for GAMSAT
A discussion thread where sitters compare which resources actually helped them — useful for hearing more than one opinion.
r/GAMSAT is a community-run subreddit, unaffiliated with ACER or Aptavia. Threads age and links inside them can go stale — check the post dates. And remember the GAMSAT now runs in two parts: Section II is sat remotely on its own days, roughly three weeks before the in-person Sections I & III test days — the confirmed dates live on our dates hub.
Common questions
Is Aptavia's free tier actually free?
Yes — no credit card, and no trial that expires into a paywall. A free account includes the full diagnostic (your baseline score), adaptive practice across all three sections with a timed mode, and 3 essay marks a day, each marked by two independent AI examiners. Daily allowances apply (for example 15 answer explanations and 25 AI tutor messages a day) and are published on our fair-use page — the numbers on this page are rendered from the same constants the code enforces.
What free official GAMSAT materials exist?
ACER — the organisation that writes and runs the GAMSAT — publishes free preparation videos, a free online platform demo and sample Written Communication prompts on its preparation page at gamsat.acer.org. Its fuller practice materials (the practice-test e-books and online practice tests) are paid, though Practice Test A is included in the registration fee. ACER's materials are the only official source of GAMSAT-style questions.
Can you prepare for the GAMSAT free?
Substantially, yes. ACER's free materials show you the real question style, Khan Academy covers the Section III science foundations, free reading libraries build Section I breadth, and free tools like Aptavia's essay marking, lessons and calculators give you practice and feedback. What free preparation can't fully replace is a large bank of marked, timed practice — that's where most candidates eventually spend something, whether on ACER's paid practice tests or a prep platform. Start free, and only pay for what your practice shows you need.
