Where the GAMSAT is used

The GAMSAT is the graduate-entry pathway for medicine (and some dentistry, optometry and related programs) in Australia, the UK and Ireland. It's run by ACER and held twice a year, with test centres in many countries plus the option of sitting it in the region you're applying to. Anyone can register — there's no nationality restriction on the exam itself.

The exam is the same for everyone

You sit the same three sections as domestic candidates — reasoning in humanities, written communication, and reasoning in the sciences. Being an international applicant doesn't change the test or how it's scored; it's a reasoning exam, and preparation is identical.

Where international status does matter

The exam is open, but admissions are where international applicants need to plan carefully:

• Places and quotas for international students differ from domestic places, and are often more limited and more competitive.
• Fees and funding differ — international tuition is typically higher, and scholarship pathways vary.
• Visa and registration requirements apply for studying, and later practising, medicine in the country.
