Why allowances exist
Pro includes generous allowances for every AI feature — everyday essay marking, the AI tutor, explanations, practice generation, lessons, flashcards, study plans and voice. They are set well above what even very heavy, genuine GAMSAT preparation uses; almost no one ever reaches them. They exist so that automated or extreme use by one account can't slow marking down — or drive costs up — for everyone else.
If you approach a monthly allowance we'll tell you in the app before anything changes. If you reach one, the feature keeps working at a reduced rate until your allowance resets on the 1st of the month (UTC) — we don't cut you off, and your scores, essays and notes are never affected.

Deep marking (the three-examiner panel with a chief-examiner reconciliation) is credit-based rather than allowance-based: Pro includes one free deep mark every 7 days, and credit packs never expire. Deep-mark credits are not affected by the allowances above.
If you reach a monthly allowance
Nothing is switched off. The feature drops to a reduced rate — a smaller number of uses per day — until your allowance resets on the 1st. The current reduced rates are:

If your use is unusually high we may temporarily slow AI features on your account while we check in. If you're preparing for an imminent exam sitting and genuinely need more, email contact@aptavia.com.au and we'll work something out — genuine study never gets stranded.
When allowances reset
- Daily allowances reset at midnight UTC (around 10 am AEST / 11 am AEDT).
- Monthly allowances reset on the 1st of each calendar month (UTC).
The daily one is the one you are most likely to meet in a long session. So on the two surfaces where that happens most — answer explanations in practice and essay marking — the app does not wait for it: once you are down to your last three, the screen you are spending them on shows how many are left and when they come back. A limit you can see coming is a schedule; one you cannot is a wall. We are extending that warning to the remaining features; until then this page is where their numbers live.
Changes to these numbers
We may adjust allowance numbers from time to time (for example when our AI costs change). This page always shows the current numbers, and we'll flag any reductions in advance. The full policy lives in our Terms of Service (“Fair use of AI features”) — nothing in it limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
